About

Linda Ohrn-McDaniel is a designer, educator and knit developer.

She is a professor at Kent State University in the School of Fashion. The start of her career focused on patternmaking and design. Over the past 10 years the focus has shifted to knitted textiles. Her goal is to grow the knit industry in the United States and provide support and opportunities for anyone who is looking to learn and explore knit development.

Linda’s creative practice spans fields from fashion to architecture, medicine and advanced materials through interdisciplinary collaborations, where she brings the knitted textile expertise to the teams she works with. She has a continous drive to learn and push herself and the projects she works on forward.

Besides working within academia she collaborates with industry on knit development and training as she looks to bridge the gap between the academic and the commercial world.

To bring awareness to knitted applications she has co-curated an exhibition titled Knitting Beyond the Body at the Kent State University Museum 2023 -2024 (see link to catalog) and also co-hosted the Knit Futures Symposium at Kent State University in March 2024. She offers consulting and training both on programming using industrial Stoll Knitting machines and on stitch development and understanding of knitting to anyone who is interested, for more information go to the products and services tab.
